Os traemos los cambios en Licencias que se anunció el día 27 de Agosto en el VMworld 2012 en San Francisco donde tradicionalmente aprovechando la ocasión del evento más importante del año para realizar anuncios al respecto de nuevas tecnologías así como algunos cambios. Pues bien, ayer se anunciaron grandes novedades a nivel tecnológico gracias al lanzamiento de la vCloud Suite 5.1 incluyendo dentro la nueva versión de vSphere 5.1, y la verdad que va a dar mucho que hablar, tanto tecnológicamente como en sus cambios a nivel de licenciamiento.
Una de las novedades más aplaudidas ha sido la eliminación del concepto de vRAM en el licenciamiento. Esto significa que ya no se va a tener en cuenta este concepto y todo el licenciamiento vuelve a ser únicamente por CPU. Por otro lado se añaden funcionalidades a distintas versiones, que seguro que van a ser muy bien recibidas. Intento detallar de manera resumida estas novedades:

Como podéis ver en la tabla, a partir de la versión Standard, como novedad, se incluye ahora:
- Hot Add
- vShield Zones
- vShield EndPoint – Descarga de antivirus a nivel de Hypervisor. Anteriormente se licenciaba por separado.
- vSphere Replication – Réplica de máquinas virtuales a nivel de hypervisor, agnóstico del almacenamiento que haya por debajo. – Anteriormente solo incluido en VMware Site Recovery Manager
- Fault Tolerance
- Storage vMotion
- vSphere Storage Appliance – Aunque no aparezca en la tabla, ahora se incluye VSA a partir de Standard y también en Essentials Plus de manera gratuita. VSA facilita el despliegue de una SAN virtual para poder disponer de todas las funcionalidades avanzadas de vSphere sin necesidad de realizar un gran desembolso en una SAN tradicional.
